Janet Nava Bandera
Janet Nava Bandera is an author, lecturer, blogger, and the President of the Bandera Law Firm, PC, with a practice limited to estate planning and charitable giving, as well as assisting small and medium-size business owners with formation and succession planning.
Janet is involved in several local charities including acting as the Chair of the Planned Giving Committee of the University of Missouri-St. Louis, the Ronald McDonald House St. Louis Planned Giving Committee, Moneta Group Charitable Foundation Board and is a board member of the Friends of the Humane Society of Missouri.
Born in Missouri, Janet graduated, magna cum laude from the University of Missouri- St. Louis with a degree in Business Administration and earned her Juris Doctor from St. Louis University School of Law in 1995, graduating cum laude. She is licensed to practice law in Missouri, Illinois and Florida.
Janet lectures on estate planning and charitable giving for local non-profit groups as well as financial services firms and combines her love of travel and meeting new people with her legal experience through an educational blog about legal issues for Americans abroad.
She makes her home in St. Charles County with her husband and their boxer, Amy.

Christine Bierman
After a brief career as a secondary education teacher, Christine Bierman founded Colt SAFETY, Inc in 1980. Colt SAFETY warehouses & distributes personal protective equipment (PPE), and industrial supplies from its headquarters in St. Louis, MO and its Las Vegas warehouse.
Rapid growth in the early 1980's brought with it numerous small business awards including SBA "Woman's Business Advocate" and "Small Business Entrepreneur," U.S. Chamber of Commerce "Blue Chip Enterprise" and Business Journal "Fastest Growing Companies."
An advocate and public speaker for woman & diversity business enterprises, Christine was one of a handful of women to testify before Congress in 1989 on HR 5050 which birthed the Women’s Business Ownership Act.
Christine was the first woman ever elected to the National Board of Directors of Safety Equipment Distributors Association (SEDA). She is past chairperson of Brentwood Economic Development Council, past President of the St. Louis Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) and has served on the Society's "Body of Knowledge" (BoK) task force.
As part of the United States SBA 50th anniversary, Christine was one of five women in the Nation to receive the 'Celebrating Women in Business Award.' And for their commitment to our Nation's defense while supporting two employees activated by 'Operation Noble Eagle' and 'Operation Iraqi Freedom,' the company received the 2004 DOD ESGR (Employers Support of the Guard and Reserve) 'FREEDOM award.'
Invited to be part of the largest privately funded construction project in America’s history, MGM CityCenter, Bierman opened a branch of Colt SAFETY in Las Vegas, NV in 2006. Bierman’s daughter Shannel Bierman is President of the operations in Las Vegas.
The company, selected as "One of St. Louis’s Best Places to Work," has a mission to "protect America’s workforce." Christine's personal mission is to be a positive resource to family, friends and staff. She measures success by "the lives we touch, the lives we change and those we see smile on our journey.”

The Honorable Norma Champion
Dr. Champion was elected to represent Springfield in the Missouri Senate in 2002 following 10 year’s service in the Missouri House of Representatives. She was re-elected to the Senate in 2006. Prior to her involvement at the state level, Senator Champion was a Springfield City Council member for five years. For nearly 30 years, she provided a positive influence for thousands of young Ozark residents through her role as Aunt Norma on the Children's Hour on KY-3 television.
With a Master’s degree from Missouri State University and a Ph.D. from the University of Oklahoma, Senator Champion has taught for 30 years and is a full-time professor at Evangel University, teaching in the fields of communications and political science.
Senator Champion chairs the committee overseeing legislation relating to senior citizens, families, health and mental health. She also chaired the Interim Committee on Adoption Promotion and Child Support Enforcement in 2006 and was a long-time member of the House and Senate Appropriations Committees. She currently serves on the Education; Gubernatorial Appointments; and Rules, Joint Rules, Resolutions and Ethics committees.
In addition to her legislative duties, she is a current member of, or has served in, the following organizations: Women in Government; Lifetime Member of Missouri PTA; Boys and Girls Town of Missouri’s Advisory Board, Junior League Advisory Board; Parents as Teachers Advisory Board; Chairman of the Board of Berean University, Global University Board of Directors, Missouri Film Commission member; Division of Medical Services Medical and Technical Advisory Committee member; Midwestern Higher Education Commissioner; and the Commission on Christian Higher Education for the Assemblies of God.

Melodee Colbert Kean
Melodee Colbert Kean, president of Prayerful Portions, LLC, a small business consulting firm, is dedicated to assisting other small businesses in developing
and integrating growth strategies to optimize profitability and sustainability.
Melodee is also committed to community and civic services, currently serving as Mayor Pro Tem on the Joplin Mo City Council. As an elected official since April 2006, she has served on the Missouri Municipal Leagues Economic Development & Human Resources Board, and on the National League of Cities F.A.I.R. Policy Board. She also serves on the Missouri Southern State University Robert Plaster School of Business Advisory Board, the Joplin Metro Credit Union Board of Directors, Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce, V.P. Joplin Emancipation Committee, NAACP and the Main Street Joplin Alliance.
A graduate of Missouri Southern State University with a Marketing Degree, Melodee worked, for over 13 years with a Mall development company as an Assistant Manager and Business Development Director. She also holds a MO Real Estate License with Charles Burt Realtors.
Melodee resides in Joplin Mo with her husband William Kean Jr. They have four children. She is a member of Unity Missionary Baptist Church and serves as Assistant Recording Secretary.

Jackie Coleman
Jackie Coleman, a resident of Jefferson City, owns Coleman & Associates, a governmental and educational consulting company. She is a native Missourian, born and raised in St. Louis, MO. She retired from Missouri state government in 2003 after 28 years of service.
Jackie earned her B.S. degree in Education from the University of Missouri Columbia and M.A. in Counseling Education from St. Louis University. She has dedicated 43 years of her life serving the education community as a former teacher, administrator and school board member. Jackie is an active community leader, serving on numerous boards and receiving recognition for her advocacy to improve the lives children and families. She currently serves on the local boards of the Boys & Girl Club and Habitat for Humanity.
Jackie has been married to her husband, Ron, for 43 years. They have two grown daughters and three granddaughters.

The Honorable Rita Heard Days
Senator Rita Heard Days was born on Oct. 16, 1950, in Minden, Louisiana, located approximately 40 minutes west of Shreveport. She graduated from Webster High School in 1968 and received a music degree from Lincoln University in 1972.
With an open House seat for the 71st District in Missouri, Sen. Days ran for the position and was elected as a representative for the district in a special election in November 1993. Three years later, Sen. Days was elected by her peers as House Majority Whip and retained that position for the remainder of her time in the Missouri House of Representatives.
Senator Days was elected to the Missouri Senate in 2002 where she currently serves on more than 10 committees, commissions, and councils. In her years in the Senate, she has drafted legislation addressing discrimination (2003), early childhood special education (2004), property taxes (2005), advanced voting systems for elections (2006), children’s mental health (2007), and ballot requirements for elections (2008).
Some of Sen. Days’ legislative accomplishments include serving on the Commission on the Future of Higher Education, Joint Commission for Court Automation, Southern Legislative Conference Education Committee, Re-appointment Task Force Committee on the Assembly on State Issues of the National Conference of State Legislatures, Election Task Force, and the Council of State Government.

Michelle Esswein, St. Louis
Michelle Esswein is Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of Winning Women. Members of Winning Women are prominent women in business and leaders in their communities. Winning Women has established public/private sector partnerships to promote an economic environment conducive to business growth and development for women in business. Michelle Esswein holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance from Webster University and Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from the University of Missouri – St. Louis. Michelle was appointed by the President of the United States to the National Women’s Business Council. On this Council, she provided an independent source of advice to both the President of the United States and the U.S. Congress on economic issues of importance to women entrepreneurs.

The Honorable Rachel Storch
Rep. Rachel Storch, a Democrat, represents part of St. Louis City and County (District 64) in the Missouri House of Representatives. First elected in 2004, she currently serves as Deputy Whip for the Democratic Caucus.
Rep. Storch serves on several House committees, including: Budget; Ways and Means; Appropriations for Transportation and Economic Development; and, Energy and Environment. This year, Rep. Storch was also appointed to serve on the Joint Committee for Legislative Research and the Joint Committee on Life Sciences.
Prior to running for office, Rep. Storch served as Deputy Chief of Staff and Senior Policy Advisor for former Senator Jean Carnahan in the United States Senate. She also worked as Legal Counsel and Director of Policy for State Senator and Democratic Floor Leader Ken Jacob. Before entering politics, Rep. Storch was a public interest attorney with Legal Services of Eastern Missouri and served for a year after law school as an Americorps*VISTA attorney at Legal Services. Rep. Storch is a member of the Missouri Bar Association.
Rep. Storch also participates on several statewide and local boards, including the Children's Trust Fund; the Missouri Women's Council; the Cultural Trust Fund board of the Missouri Arts Council; and Nurses for Newborns, among others.
She received her undergraduate degree, with honors, in American History and Literature from Harvard University and a law degree from Washington University in St. Louis where she was an Olin Fellow.
Rep. Storch has been recognized by numerous organizations for her public service, including Missouri Chamber of Commerce "Spirit of Enterprise" Award; St. Louis RCGA "Lewis and Clark Statesman" Award; St. Louis Business Journal "Legislator of the Year" Award; St. Louis Cardinal Glennon Hospital "Champion of Children" Award; Paraquad "Disability Rights Legislative Leadership" Award, among others. In 2008, she was one of twelve Americans to be named an Eisenhower Fellow.
Rep. Storch grew up in St. Louis and currently lives near Forest Park. She is the daughter of Dr. Greg and the late Debby Storch and the sister of Nate, Emily, and Thomas.

Karen Thornton, Sunrise Beach
Karen Thornton was raised in Shawnee, Kansas and moved to California. She’s been married for 33 years to a native Californian. She quickly got involved in the community which included the Missouri Women’s Council. Karen has over 35 years of experience in administrative services, both in the corporate world and her own business, Karen’s Secretarial Service, in which she partners with her husband Steve. The service offers the expertise of a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor providing accounting services with QuickBooks Pro for the small and growing business. Currently the business provides support for a number of Lake Businesses, while still maintaining an active client base in California. Karen and Steve have 5 children, 13 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.

Michelle Word is manager of Supplier Diversity for Burns & McDonnell. She has been with the company for five years and is developer of the company’s
supplier diversity procedures and policies. She is responsible for ensuring the company locates, utilizes and develops diverse businesses.
She also works externally to educate prospective suppliers and subcontractors about Burns & McDonnell’s supplier diversity objectives and project
participation. She is also responsible for internal education of project managers, procurement personnel and others in the company about the
importance of cultivating and maintaining a diverse supplier base and methods to achieve this objective.
Michelle maintains active participation in several organizations with a goal to increase business development opportunities between majority and
small/diverse businesses. These organizations include the MidAmerica Minority Business Development Council, the Hispanic Chamber of Greater Kansas
City, the Asian American Chamber of Commerce, the Minority Contractors Association, and the Greater New England Minority Supplier Development
Council. Additionally, she is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and The Jackson County Chapter of The Links, Incorporated.

Lisa Althoff, Executive Director
Ms. Althoff is the Executive Director of the Missouri Women’s Council. The Missouri Women's Council strives to promote and increase women's economic and
employment opportunities through education and training. The Council also works to connect women in business and women in the workforce to information and resources.
She received her undergraduate degree from Lincoln University and her Masters in Business Administration from William Woods University. At Lincoln University, Althoff
was appointed to the Women’s Leadership Academy which focuses on the preparation of talented women for the workforce and for future leadership roles. It also fostered
mentorship for high school girls and young college women. Althoff interned for the Missouri Women’s Council and assisted in creating and publishing the Missouri Business
Resource Directory. She is also a graduate of the Sue Shear Institute’s 21st Century Leadership Academy located in St. Louis, Missouri.
She has held positions at the Missouri Public Service Commission, Missouri Public School Retirement System, National SAFE KIDS Coalition and the American Cancer Society.
